Are you gently poisoning yourself?
It seems cosmetics and other products are causing an epidemic of allergies!
Whilst this is good news for me and other people sharing wonderful botanically based products, it is sad that we have to see people suffering before the unregulated, multi billion cosmetic, health and wellness companies start to consider taking action!
In the last month there have been articles in the good old Daily Mail, the Times and even on Watchdog about how some of the cosmetic giants are taking one particular chemical out of their best selling products.
Methylisothiazolinone (MI) is a preservative designed to extend shelf life (some products have a shelf life of SEVEN years!) and has no useful properties for consumers of the product.
MI can cause rashes, lumps, blisters, itchy eyes and even facial swelling. This was serious enough to require steroids when the swelling of one young lady’s face was so severe it almost restricted her breathing! Reactions are experienced by 1 in 10 users, based on a dermatologist’s research!
Johnson and Johnson and Molton Brown are taking MI out of some of their products and other big brands like Nivea, L’Oreal, Clarins and Sanctuary are under pressure to take action according to the Daily Mail today. One leading dermatologist suggests it should be removed from products like moisturisers which stay on the skin and be reduced considerably in wash out products like shampoo.
Let’s hope that the plethora of publicity surrounding this ingredient will force the health and wellness giants to be more responsible and remove all traces of MI from ALL their products! Let’s see more thought for the health of customers rather than for profits!
